Sewing is one of my first loves.........as a matter of fact, I never remember learning how to sew, it has always been a part of my life. My mother had and still has one of the old Singer Sewing Machines, (which she says still sews as good now as it did then) it's made of heavy cast iron or something like that and it folds down inside the cabinet. I could stay entertained for days creating something out of the left over scraps from our dresses she made, or the "flower sack", fabric bags that we got flour in at the grocery store. Granny lived next and had one of the pedal type machines.........in my mind I can still see her sitting at that machine with her foot pumping that machine and her head going side to side in perfect rhythm as she sewed. She showed all of us girls how to make the old fashion bonnets that the older ladies and babies used to wear and aprons, that may be why I still love aprons to this day. She even let us use that machine too. Those machines were really low maintenance, had to be for all of us to use them.
I thought that since sewing was such a big part of me that I would share some of my projects, first let me say, that as much as I like to sew I also love to collect fabric. And I do have a collection. I have to tell you about a wonderful place to get fabric, (which sounds like an unlikely place) is a drug store in Opp, Al. where my sister lives, it's T&C Drugs. It is like a candy store for the eyes, and my creative side of my brain is on overload.........so hard to decide what to get. And then, there's all the trims and ribbons that matches everything, I finally picked out the trim I wanted and matched the fabric with it......whew. Needless to say, when I leave the store I am so inspired and motivated to get home and make something. My daughter Melissa wanted me to make some things for her daughter,( my grand daughter), to wear to school and I couldn't wait to get started. This outfit is from a Pink Fig pattern called the cuppy cake dress, so cute, with so many variations that can be made. I used coordinating pinks and greens to make the dress and made the pants from the legs of some very wide legged denim capri's that I had....can't believe I just admitted that to everyone........oh well, I don't like to waste anything. I was pleased with how it turned out and can't wait now to start another project.

I attached all the trims and shoulder straps to the yolk.
This wide ribbon was the inspiration for the fabrics.
Each strip of fabric is serged together with the wrong sides together using decorative thread.
A border is attached to the hem.
Sewing the rick rack on.
Make a button hole on each side of the front yolk.
Savaged denim for the pants with the ribbon and fabric ruffle.
The finished product! So Cute.
One down, now on to another project.
